Dragons at Play

Today was the 2nd Dragon Pride Assembly of the year, and the theme was Dragons at Play.  The girls got to dress up representing their favorite after school hobby.  Allison chose art, and Caroline chose soccer.  These assemblies are a fun way to celebrate their accomplishments with reading and a service project during the six weeks.

Dinosaur book for Jack
Last Sunday was a special day for our family.  Our niece and my Goddaughter, Sophie, was baptized at Grace Presbyterian Church in Plano.  The service was beautiful, and the pastor did a great job performing the ceremony and making it a special time for our family.  Allison was thrilled because she and Jack got to go up to the front and pick a rose from the flower bouquet to present to Sophie and Robin and Forty.  After the church service we took some family pictures and then headed back to Forty and Robin's house for a delicious lunch.  Forty had smoked the most amazing brisket, and Robin made a bunch of really great sides including homemade mac and cheese.  We topped it off with a beautiful cake with a pink cross on it.  Robin's parents were there, as well, and had fun visiting with them.  Allison was very into Sophie and enjoyed feeding her a bottle and playing on the floor with her.  Jack had so much fun with his cousins, and we are thankful for a family and a fun day together.

Our Fighter!!

The kids had two days off from school last week for Martin Luther King day and a teacher's workday.  On the second day of the break we decided to go to the Galleria and go ice skating with our friends, the Pichs. We had lunch at Corner Bakery and had an awesome time skating on the almost empty rink.  After we'd been skating about an hour, I heard a horrible cry behind me, and found that Will had fallen and hit his head on the ice.  He split the side of his eye open, and it immediately swelled up to a huge size.  The employees at the rink were so great, and took him back to the first aide room and got him all cleaned and bandaged up.  We headed back home and then made a 3 hour trip to the ER to have his head and cut examined.  They just used a "strip" to close the cut, and gave him a neurological exam since he had hit his head pretty hard.  Everything checked out great, and he was proud to show Dad his battle wound when we got home.  Head injuries scare this mom, so I was very thankful that it all ended well.

Day of Basketball

Caroline and Will are both playing Upwards Basketball this winter, and Saturday we had our first games. This was Will's first game ever, and he did a great job - even scoring a basket!  He received the award for offense, and we were so proud of the way he played and how much he had out there.

Caroline played later in the afternoon and had a great game, too.  She scored several baskets, but her biggest influence was on defense.  She took her job of guarding very seriously, and it was fun to watch.  She, of course, received the award for defense!  It's going to be a fun season watching them play!

Lizzy the Lizard

Will had his friend Graham over last Friday, and together they caught a lizard and made it a house.  I thought it was so cute and took some pictures of them playing with the lizard outside!  Somehow, over the course of the next two days, everyone in my family, except me, became attached to this lizard.  It got a name, got a real cage, and got brought into our home.  I don't know what to say accept I just somehow lost this battle.  Will's smile each day over seeing Lizzy when he comes home from school is almost worth having her around!
